Founded in 2016, Lisa Vollmer Photography Studio + Gallery is a special space that celebrates photography. With a commitment to curating dynamic exhibitions featuring the works of Lisa Vollmer and her mother, Sabine von Falken, the gallery creates an environment conducive to engaging conversations and fostering connections within the creative community.
Lisa Vollmer is an accomplished photographer with a rich artistic background that spans continents and cultures. Holding a fine art degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a master's degree from the University of Arts in Berlin, Germany, Lisa's passion for photography was ignited during her early career as a professional fine art printer in New York City. There, she had the privilege of printing for renowned artists such as Irving Penn, Louise Lawler, Saul Leiter, and many others, honing her technical skills and gaining invaluable insights into the art world. After completing her graduate studies, Lisa's love for lighting and photography led her to manage the lighting studio at the esteemed Maine Media Workshops. This role allowed her to work closely with aspiring photographers and established professionals, guiding them in the art of using light to shape and enhance their images.
Lisa's personal photographic journey has taken her across the globe, creating artwork while in Europe, the United States, India, Japan, Turkey, Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, and Morocco. Among Lisa's notable projects is an ongoing series of self-portraits that dates back to 1998 predating the era of the selfie as we know it today. Inspired by her work on a series of portraits taken at the Chicago International O'Hare Airport, she discovered her passion for photography in the public sphere. Using her camera as a tool for exploring people's identities and experiences, Lisa Vollmer delves into the complexities of nationality, shedding light on the ways cultural backgrounds intersect and influence individuals' lives.
Lisa Vollmer continues to push the boundaries of her creativity, constantly seeking new perspectives. Through her photography, she invites viewers to pause, reflect, and find their own viewpoints.
