We are thrilled to announce the opening of "Birth of Democracy," a poignant photography exhibition featuring the works of Lisa Vollmer and Sabine von Falken. The exhibition will be on view from June 22nd to September 2nd, 2024.

"Birth of Democracy" is a timely show, presenting works created this spring. Central to the exhibition are landscapes created in Athens that embody peace, with the color green from the Ancient Agora Gardens being a prominent element in the imagery. Highlighting the show is a new piece from Lisa Vollmer's "Moving Scapes" series, which delves into the origins and ongoing evolution of democracy through the enduring lens of ancient Greek architecture and mythology. The exhibition features images of iconic structures such as the Temple of Athena, the Parthenon, and the Treasury of Athens at Delphi, reimagined into a symbolic temple that reflects our current era of instability and imbalance.

The columns depicted in the installation, typically symbols of stability and balance, are displayed in motion, echoing contemporary concerns about the state of democracy in light of global elections and the upcoming elections in the United States. This piece invites viewers to ponder the fragility and resilience of democratic principles.

Additionally, Lisa Vollmer will debut her first short video piece during the opening weekend, offering an exciting new dimension to her work.

Also featured in the gallery works by Sabine von Falken, titled “Democracy” and “Peace,” specifically created for this exhibition. These photographs are part of her ongoing Britannica series.

Season Opening

Featuring artwork by
Lisa Vollmer & Sabine von Falken

Please join us!

We are excited to announce the awaited season opening, showcasing our recent work. The exhibition will commence with an opening reception on June 17, 2023, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

You will be greeted by a five-panel artwork titled “Earth". This installation captures the unique topography of Cappadocia, Turkey, as its central images. Surrounding these aerial views are carefully placed photographs of a small rock discovered on Cape Cod's National Seashore. Through the arrangement of these elements, an optical illusion is created, elevating the spherical form and dynamic texture that epitomize our planet.

We are honored to acknowledge that this piece was made possible through the generous support of a grant from the Martha Boschen Porter Fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

Additionally, the gallery proudly presents a collection of new works by Sabine von Falken, inspired by her recent exploration in Morocco. The new series of prints highlights a diverse range of subjects, including vibrant street art, beautiful Berber symbols, and a dynamic set of still life compositions. Among the notable pieces are "Moroccan Dates" and "Portrait of a Teapot" both created in Essaouira, Morocco. These pieces showcase Sabine's unique ability to discover beauty in the functional and transform it into visually striking pieces.

Man vs Nature

Featuring the Moroccan Landscape

The works in the exhibit were photographed this spring in Marrakesh, over the Atlas Mountains, and into the Sahara Desert dunes of Erg Chebbi. Vollmer’s work explores the natural surviving the artificial. Depictions include goats in argan trees, and satellite dishes encroaching on a palm; a man far in the distance and a caravan of camels with tourists travel through the desert in an installation consisting of five panel prints that form a newfound landscape.
